Catherine Cortez Masto Statement on Paris Terror Attacks

Statement

Date: Nov. 16, 2015
Location: Las Vegas, NV

Former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto issued the following statement on the Paris terror attacks:

"My heart goes out to the victims of these attacks and their families. It is clear that the United States supports the people of France and the efforts to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts of terror to justice. America must also continue to provide support for the Iraqi Kurds in their efforts to combat ISIS, as well as continue the air strikes targeting these remorseless terrorists.

"These attacks highlight the danger ISIS poses not just to the region, but to the international community as a whole. The United States and our allies must root out terror wherever it is, but we must also take steps to secure our homeland. In light of ISIS's despicable exploitation of the refugee crisis to target the West, we must ensure that our vetting process for accepting Syrian refugees is as thorough as possible. I share the concerns of some Republicans in Congress to ensure the United States Intelligence Community approves the vetting process before we accept more refugees. This does not mean we abandon our moral obligation to aid those fleeing ISIS. But for the security of the American people, we must have law enforcement and the intelligence community review the vetting process of who we are accepting into our country."
