Former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on the designation of Basin and Range as a national monument:

"We need to do everything we can to protect Nevada's public lands for future generations. The Basin and Range National Monument will help protect the wildlife, fauna, and cultural resources unique to our desert so Nevada's children and grandchildren can enjoy this beautiful landscape."
