Catherine Cortez Masto Statement on Supreme Court Ruling on Marriage Equality

Statement

Date: June 26, 2015
Location: Las Vegas, NV

Former Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement on the Supreme Court's ruling today on marriage equality:

"Today is a historic victory in the fight to ensure every American has equal rights under the law. A few months ago, I had the honor of serving as a witness to a member of my staff's same sex wedding. People who love each other should be able to marry and today's ruling affirms that.

"But as we celebrate today's landmark ruling, it is important to remember the fight for equality is not over. LGBT Americans still face discrimination in the workplace, and same-sex military families still receive lower veteran's benefits and are sometimes even denied care at their local VA . We also still have work to do in eliminating discrimination against LGBT Americans in housing, public accommodation, jury service, and education. In the Senate, I will work to end discrimination against every Nevadan regardless of who they love."
