Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today applauded the unanimous passage of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Act, legislation that authorizes resources for local programs to protect and restore the Great Lakes ecosystem. The bipartisan bill addresses some of the challenges facing the Great Lakes region, including combating harmful algal blooms, preventing invasive species like Asian carp, restoring habitat to protect wildlife, and cleaning up areas of concern.

"The Great Lakes are a vast strategic resource and source of pride for the state of Michigan and our country as a whole. Today's bipartisan action will help protect this magnificent national treasure and preserve the health and vitality of the Great Lakes for the benefit of our environment and economy for generations to come," said Walberg.
