Carbajal Releases New Ad Pushing for College Affordability and Accessibility

Press Release

Date: May 4, 2016

Today, Supervisor Salud Carbajal's campaign for the 24th Congressional District of California released its fourth television ad highlighting his commitment to making college more affordable and accessible for Central Coast students and families.

In Congress, Carbajal will advocate for policies aimed at improving college affordability including lowering interest rates for government backed loans, allowing students to refinance their loans, expanding the Pell Grant program and pushing universities to keep costs down if they want to continue to receive federal research dollars and other aid. Carbajal will work to implement two years of tuition-free community college to allow students to take their first step toward a college education.

Carbajal released the following statement on his campaign's television spot:

"It is becoming more and more difficult for students to graduate from college without an inordinate amount of loan debt. I was the first in my family to graduate from a four-year university with the assistance of financial aid, student loans and the Veterans Education Assistance Program. Unfortunately, these resources are not going far enough to reduce the crushing debt for students and their families.

"We need to do everything in our power to make college more accessible and affordable including lowering interest rates for student loans and allowing students to refinance their debt. Anyone willing to work toward attaining a higher education degree should have an opportunity to do so, without graduating with decades worth of debt."
