Ocean Champions, which works to build political power for the oceans by helping to elect pro-ocean candidates to the U.S. Congress, announced today its endorsement for Jimmy Panetta in the 20th district of California. Mr. Panetta, raised on the Central Coast of California, knows the importance of healthy oceans for the environment and the economy of the region.

"Jimmy Panetta has dedicated his career to public service. He will continue that service in Congress and be a stalwart champion for our oceans to benefit his district and our nation," said David Wilmot, Ph.D., Ocean Champions' President and Co-Founder.

"I am grateful to receive the endorsement from Ocean Champions," said Jimmy Panetta. "Ocean Champions is an organization that has made oceans a priority on Capitol Hill. I am ready to work to ensure that Congress continues to support sensible and strong policies that demonstrate our willingness to protect the only ocean we have."

A Monterey native, Jimmy Panetta currently serves as a prosecutor for the Monterey County District Attorney's office. Jimmy's appreciation for California's bountiful natural resources has been apparent throughout his life. During a period between completion of his undergraduate degree and law school he worked as an Ordinary Seaman assisting with hydrographic research aboard a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship off the coast of Alaska.

He currently serves on the advisory council for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and is committed to the preservation of our environmental resources that make the central coast so beautiful. He knows that the Monterey Bay and coastline are the crown jewels of his district. He will continue to carry the torch to protect the area just as Congressman Sam Farr and Secretary Leon Panetta have done for many years.
