Elaine Kontominas Alquist Endorses Ro Khanna

Today, Elaine Alquist, former California State Senator and Assemblywoman, announced her endorsement of Ro Khanna in his 2016 race to represent the 17th Congressional District of California.

"Ro has what it takes to get big money and special interests out of politics", said Alquist. "His vision for our complex community is crystal clear, providing for our neighbors through the protection of social security and Medicare, and adhering to innovative aging in place measures. Khanna will protect our nation's historic health care coverage. He is smart, capable, dynamic, and compassionate. Ready to take on the challenges facing us at home and in Washington D.C."

Accepting the endorsement, Khanna noted, "Elaine Alquist is someone to be admired. I look forward to seeking her counsel on providing long term care for our senior citizens, making drug costs more affordable, and strengthening social security in the years ahead from Washington. Her endorsement brings me great humility and pride."

The endorsement follows a long list of prominent area Democratic leaders who either supported Honda or remained neutral in 2014 that have recently announced that they are now supporting Khanna in 2016, including:

Secretary of State Alex Padilla

Santa Clara County District Attorney, Jeff Rosen

Santa Clara County Assessor, Larry Stone

Councilmembers Manh Nguyen and Tam Nguyen

Additionally, none of the four Democratic Clubs in the 17th Congressional District which had supported Honda in the past offer him a sole endorsement in 2016. Honda also twice failed to secure the automatic endorsement of the California Democratic Party afforded all incumbents this cycle.
