Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth's (IL-08) office celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at a variety of events throughout the Chicagoland area this month. Duckworth is an Executive Board member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, where she has been working to address the needs of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in all areas of American life.

"I am proud of the Asian Pacific American community's many achievements and look forward to its continued contributions, which serve to enrich our nation--socially, economically and culturally," said Congresswoman Duckworth. "As May draws to a close, I'm excited to recognize our community's many diverse cultures and their rich traditions, and I'm glad my office was able to participate in celebrations with the Asian Pacific American community this month."

Events attended by her office included a presentation of the Lao New Year hosted by the Lao Youth Leaders and Lao Youth Summer Program at Elgin Community College, the Asian American Heritage Month Community Kickoff at the Chinese American Service League in Chicago, the Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration at Elgin's Gail Borden Public Library and the Kickoff of Asian Festival Week at Daley Plaza in Chicago.
