Duckworth Announces Nearly $5 Million For Organizations Fighting Homelessness In The Eighth District

Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) today announced $4,890,113 in federal funding for organizations fighting homelessness that serve the Eighth District. This funding is part of $1.6 billion awarded to 6,400 organizations fighting homelessness nationwide by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"At the Department of Veterans Affairs, I helped lead the national effort to fight homelessness among Veterans," said Congresswoman Duckworth. "This funding will help organizations work to reduce homelessness in and around the Eighth District and bring us closer to the goal of making sure no one who fought for our freedom is forced to lay their head down on the very streets they were defending. I will continue working to ensure our most vulnerable communities receive the services and support that can help change lives for the better."

Funds awarded to organizations fighting homelessness in and around the Eighth District include:

$3,277,593 in eleven grants to Thresholds, Inc.
$496,633 in two grants to WINGS Program, Inc.
$437,705 in three grants to DuPage County Health Department
$400,348 in two grants to Ecker Center for Mental Health
$277,834 in two grants to DuPage County Community Services

Duckworth served in the Reserve Forces for 23 years and later served as the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in Washington. She helped introduce the bipartisan Fairness for Veterans Act, which would protect thousands of Veterans from being needlessly denied healthcare and other benefits.
