This week, Richard Burr and Senate Republicans scheduled themselves another weeklong vacation and left Washington with crucial work left on the table, including consideration of the Supreme Court nominee and the nominee to the U.S. Eastern District of North Carolina federal court -- all while the Senate has done its least amount of work in 60 years.
Despite his light schedule and weeklong vacation, incumbent Senator Burr has still not found time to even meet with U.S. Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, a position that is disapproved of by 58% of North Carolinians. He also continues to block the nomination of Judge Patricia Timmons-Goodson to the U.S. Eastern District of North Carolina. The U.S. Eastern District of North Carolina, which currently has the longest running vacancy in the country totaling 3804 days has been declared a judicial emergency.
Statement from Cole Leiter, Ross Press Secretary:
"North Carolinians know the meaning of hard work. In fact, millions of people across our state wake up every morning and go to work and do their jobs. But instead of following the example set by hardworking members of our community, Richard Burr and his Republican colleagues set their schedules to ensure that they will have more than 20 weeks of vacation this year alone. Richard Burr's refusal to do the job he's being paid to do represents exactly what's wrong with Washington and why North Carolinians are ready for a change."
