Conflict that puts Americans in harm's way must always be our last resort. But when we do send our service members into war, we have a responsibility to provide them with the best equipment while serving our nation in battle, their families with the support they need while sacrificing at home, and the medical and mental health resources to help them re-integrate into civilian life when they come home.

While at St. Jude Medical, one of the most enjoyable aspects of my role was our work helping veterans find a job in the company or in the medical technology industry. I am continuing that work with the company even while running for Congress. We must incentivize and encourage private industries to employ our nation's service members when they come home. And we must provide job training resources for our returning veterans.

Our veterans deserve nothing less than world-class healthcare everywhere across this country. There is no more basic necessity in honoring their service than ensuring that our Veterans always have timely access to the highest quality of care. We must continue to reform the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure that Veterans are able to access this care; and hold accountable those in leadership for the management of these facilities responsible for providing that care.
