Sessions Fights Against the President's Unlawful Directive

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration's coercive bathroom directive:

"Today's announcement is yet another example of President Obama's unwarranted and excessive use of federal power. While I believe that we must make reasonable accommodations for all individuals, I do not believe that President Obama has the authority to coerce states and schools into succumbing to his demands by revoking federal dollars -- dollars appropriated by Congress.

"In response to the Administration's unlawful directive, I wrote a letter to the President, requesting that they suspend their demands until this issue receives thorough judicial review. This directive is a direct violation of the separation of powers and I will not let President Obama trample on our Constitution and unfairly coerce states to adopt his liberal agenda"
