Sessions Applauds Measure to Unleash the Power of American Manufacturing

Statement

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 4923, the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act of 2016:

"As a Ronald Reagan Republican and fierce supporter of free trade, I have always believed that when America competes, America wins. However, higher taxes and onerous regulations have held back our economy and shackled American businesses, especially in the manufacturing industry. According the National Association of Manufactures, U.S. companies have been saddled with a $748 million tax hike each year, which has drastically hindered their ability to compete and has cost the American economy nearly $2 billion annually. These policies have held manufacturers hostage and severely hindered their ability to create jobs, grow our economy, and compete in the global marketplace.

"Today we took an important step toward remedying this issue and unleashing the power of American manufacturing. I proudly joined my colleagues in supporting this measure to create an open and transparent process for the House to consider manufacturing tax breaks to give American businesses the opportunity to be competitive in the global marketplace."
