Governor Hassan's Statement on Tuition Freeze at New Hampshire's Community Colleges

Following today's vote by the Community College System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees to freeze in-state tuition for the 2016-2017 academic calendar, Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:

"With today's announcement of another in-state tuition freeze, the leadership of the Community College System of New Hampshire continues to demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that all Granite Staters have access to affordable higher education, which is critical to helping our workers develop the skills and innovative thinking needed for success in the 21st century innovation economy.

"Our community colleges are nationally recognized for the value they provide to their students, and continue to lead in modernizing and innovating in higher education. Through partnerships with the business community, nimble and cutting-edge programs and extensive online education options, their efforts are helping develop a stronger workforce pipeline that can help existing businesses grow and attract new companies to our state.

"After reducing in-state tuition in 2014 and freezing in-state tuition in 2015 and again in 2016, the Community College System of New Hampshire has been constant in its dedication to accessible and affordable higher education, and I am grateful for their unyielding commitment to the success of our students and our state. By working across party lines, we have made real progress in holding down the cost of higher education, and I look forward to continue working with the higher education community, businesses and members of both parties to do even more to hold down the cost of higher education."
