Statement from Governor Hassan on Passage of Bill Upgrading Technology for PDMP

Statement

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after the New Hampshire House of Representatives and the New Hampshire Senate passed the committee of conference version of Senate Bill 522, which includes the Governor's proposal for funding to upgrade the state's prescription drug monitoring program:

"Earlier this year, I was proud to sign bipartisan legislation that strengthened our prescription drug monitoring program, and this measure will build on that important progress by upgrading the program's technology to ensure that more prescribers can use it in a timely fashion. At the same time, I have been working to maintain drug forfeiture funds, which are critical to state, county, and local law enforcement efforts as they work to remove illicit drugs from our streets and arrest dealers. In addition to upgrading the technology for our prescription drug monitoring program, this legislation also addresses my major concern with the original drug forfeiture bill -- that it would have taken resources from local police departments.

"Both the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and the Drug Forfeiture Fund are important tools in our comprehensive approach to combat the heroin and opioid crisis, and I look forward to signing this bipartisan bill that strengthens our prescription drug monitoring program and maintains drug forfeiture funds."
