Governor Hassan to Nominate Peter Danles as Executive Director of Office of Professional Licensure and Certification

As part of her efforts to innovate in state government in order to improve efficiency and state services, Governor Maggie Hassan announced today that she will nominate Peter Danles as the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (OPLC) at tomorrow's Executive Council meeting.

Following a recommendation by the Governor's Commission on State Government Innovation, Efficiency and Transparency, Governor Maggie Hassan proposed creating OPLC as part of the most recent bipartisan budget, merging individual boards and commissions in order to oversee administrative functions and provide staff and support to each professional board.

"We must always be looking for new ways to innovate in state government in order to improve efficiency, streamline state government and help provide even higher quality customer service for our people and businesses," Governor Hassan said. "The recently created Office of Professional Licensure and Certification is an important part of those efforts, ensuring that our professional boards have the staff and administrative support they need to continue their critical work. Peter Danles' strong record of administrative and managerial experience in implementing and coordinating programs a wide range of public sector programs will serve him well in this important role."

Currently the Director of State Security Programs for the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services, Danles is responsible for the planning, management and coordination of the development, implementation and administration of statewide security programs. He previously served as the Training Director for the Virginia Department of Corrections Academy for Staff Development, the Executive Director for the Vermont Parole Board, the Licensing Unit Director for the Vermont Department for Children and Families and the Criminal Justice Program Director at Champlain College.

In New Hampshire, Danles has served as a probation and parole officer at the Department of Corrections, a juvenile probation officer at the former Division for Family and Youth Services and as a police officer in the Hanover Police Department. He received a graduate degree from the State University at Buffalo and his undergraduate degree from Roberts Wesleyan College.

"I look forward to working with the Governor, our state agencies and dedicated volunteers who serve on these boards to support their important work of setting the rules for their professions and ensuring that those rules are followed."

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Executive Council. Governor Hassan will formally make the nomination to the Council at Wednesday's meeting.
