Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today after the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted down Senate Bill 537, relative to record management of abuse and neglect reports:
"Our society rests on the fundamental principle that all children must be able to grow up in a safe environment, and we must always be working to ensure that we are providing the best protections for our children. Senate Bill 537 is a bipartisan bill that would have extended the length of time the Division of Children, Youth and Families retains child protection records, allowing child protective workers to better track patterns of maltreatment. I am extremely disappointed that the New Hampshire House of Representatives failed to recognize that this bill would have allowed us to better protect children in New Hampshire against abuse and neglect."
