Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after signing today Senate Bill 460, relative to a school board's duty to ensure the teaching of health and physical education as it relates to abused children:
"Public safety is the most important responsibility of any government, and we must always work together to strengthen protections for our most vulnerable and to keep students and children everywhere safe from harm. A recommendation of the Commission to Study Sexual Abuse Prevention Education that we created in 2014, Senate Bill 460 expands the definition of 'abused child,' which will allow us to strengthen child sexual abuse prevention education in our public schools. I commend Senator Watters for his leadership and members from both parties for working together on this bill, and I am glad to sign this important bipartisan child safety and education bill into law."
