Gov. Hickenlooper Announces Appointment to the 13th Judicial District

Gov. John Hickenlooper today appointed Carl McGuire as district court judge in the 13th Judicial District (Kit, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Yuma). McGuire will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Douglas R. Vannoy.

McGuire is currently a District Court Magistrate judge in the 13th Judicial District, a position he has held since 2013. His docket consists mainly of domestic relations cases. He concurrently serves as a Washington County Court judge, a position he has held since 2005. He has also been a member of the U.S. Navy JAG Corps since 2003. Prior to joining the bench, he served as an attorney for the towns of Wiggins, Hillrose, Akron, Iliff, Log Lane Village, and Fleming, as well as a municipal court judge, and was engaged in private practice with Brandenburg & McGuire, P.C. and with the Law Office of Carl S. McGuire III.

McGuire earned his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University in 1996 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1999.

The appointment is effective July 1, 2016.
