Grassley Comments on Confirmation of Mad Cow Disease in U.S.

Sen. Chuck Grassley today issued the following statement after learning that a cow from the United States was determined to have Mad Cow Disease.

Here's Grassley's statement.

"Our food supply is safe and I hope everyone keeps hamburgers on their July 4th barbeque menu. Our food supply continues to be safe today because the screening system worked that was put in place after the first case of BSE in the U.S. Today's results show us that while the screening system worked, more work needs to be done in the testing system. This was an old cow, born before the 1997 feed ban, but it clearly shows that we need to develop a better testing regime. In fact, we need to develop the best testing regime in the world."
