Statement Of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell On The President's Speech On Iraq

U.S. Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell today released the following statement in support of President Bush and the War in Iraq:

"The President did an outstanding job reiterating his commitment to the Iraqi people and to the cause of freedom. He laid out a clear strategy for success, and he has my full support.

"I have made three trips to Iraq, and during my most recent visit in early June, I met with General Petraeus, General Casey, Embassy staff and individual Marines in Fallujah -- they all said the same thing: coalition forces are indeed making progress in Iraq. Reconstruction is going forward, the Iraqi security forces are becoming increasingly capable and the Iraqi cabinet has begun to govern. These are remarkable accomplishments under even the best of circumstances."
