Location: Raleigh, NC

Deborah Ross, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, released the following statement in response to the Department of Justice's ruling that HB2 violates the U.S. Civil Rights Act.

"There is no longer any justification under which Richard Burr can continue to claim that HB2 is not a federal issue," said Ross. "It's already forcing workers who have suffered employment discrimination to go through a backlogged federal court system. Now, the effects of our state losing millions of dollars in federal school funding will be devastating for our students and for our economy. Senator Burr needs to show some leadership and do what is right -- finally put the interests of our state before his own political interest and work to put an end to this law."

Following the passage of HB2, Deborah spoke out against the law, saying that "HB2 will hurt our citizens and makes our great state less welcoming to new residents and businesses, who can help bring economic growth."
