Deborah Ross Demands Senator Burr Fulfill His Constitutional Responsibilities

Today, Senator Richard Burr put partisan politics ahead of his constitutional duties by standing with national Republicans in refusing to even consider a nominee to the Supreme Court ahead of the 2016 elections. Deborah Ross, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, issued the following statement calling on Senator Burr to fulfill his constitutional duties after he told the Winston-Salem Journal the Supreme Court seat should remain vacant for nearly a year.

"Within hours after the passing of Justice Scalia, Senator Burr and the Republicans jumped at the chance to play politics yet again by refusing to even consider a nominee for the Supreme Court.

"At a time when the voting rights of North Carolinians are actively pending before the Court, we need a U.S. Senator who will put the good of our state and our country ahead of partisan political fights. Senator Burr needs to stand up for the Constitution and his constituents and do his job."

Deborah Ross represented Wake County in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2003-2013 where she chaired both the Judiciary and Elections Committees and for more than two decades has been a practicing attorney in North Carolina.
