Durham People's Alliance PAC Endorses Deborah Ross for U.S. Senate

Date: Feb. 2, 2016
Location: Raleigh, NC

Deborah Ross, Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate, has earned the endorsement from the Durham People's Alliance PAC. The endorsement was voted on by the People's Alliance PAC full committee and took place following an extensive interview process participated in by multiple candidates for U.S. Senate. A progressive community organization, the People's Alliance PAC has been active in North Carolina politics since its inception in 1976.

"Deborah Ross has both the positions on issues and the experience that North Carolina needs," the People's Alliance PAC stated on their website. "She served over five terms in the General Assembly, where she was a strong and effective advocate for the interests of ordinary people. She fought for improved public education and for consumers against predatory lending. In the Senate, she will fight against the influence of big money in American politics. She would vote to close tax loopholes for the wealthy, for a decent minimum wage, and invest in education, research, and national infrastructure. She will defend social security and affordable health care."

"We are thrilled to have Deborah Ross on the ballot," added Tom Miller, current People's Alliance PAC Coordinator. "North Carolina cannot send to the United States Senate a more thoughtful, effective, and sincere advocate for the needs and interests of ordinary citizens. When I was a consumer advocate in the North Carolina Justice Department, it was my privilege to watch Deborah fight for laws to protect people from high-handed and unfair lending practices. She worked incredibly hard and reached across the aisle to win bi-partisan support for the bills she championed. Thoughtfulness, hard work, and cooperation. That's what North Carolina needs. That's what the country needs. That's Deborah Ross."

"I'm proud to have earned the support of an active group of Durham voters with my record of advocacy and getting results for North Carolina," said Deborah. "I'm running because all North Carolinians deserve a leader in the U.S. Senate fighting to make education more accessible and economic opportunity achievable. I'm eager to continue bringing my message directly to voters in communities across our great state."

The Durham People's Alliance is a progressive community organization with a history of accomplishment on a wide range of city and county issues including education, environmental protection, economic justice and sound economic growth for our community, according to their website. People's Alliance also works on such issues as campaign finance reform, watershed protection, public transportation, LGBT rights, and affordable housing. Since its founding in 1976, the People's Alliance has played a significant role -- often in the face of strong opposition -- in the success of several progressive accomplishments.

Deborah Ross represented Wake County in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 2003-2013, and for more than two decades has been a practicing attorney in North Carolina.
