Issue Position: Fixing our Economy & Lowering Your Taxes

Issue Position

Seven out of 10 new jobs are created by small businesses. As a small business owner myself, I understand the hard work it takes to stay afloat. I have experienced firsthand the hardships small businesses face in Missouri. I understand what it's like to sign the front of a check and not just the back, I understand the necessity of a balanced budget, and I know what it is like to live within one's means. My experiences with owning a small business not only pushed me to run for office, but to fight for small businesses in Congress.

One way I have fought for small business is by pushing for meaningful tax reform, cutting red tape, and reducing regulations. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee I am in the driver's seat to see these priorities through. I know that money spent on taxes and to comply with regulations detracts from the money that could be spent to grow a business and hire more employees.

In addition, you, your family and American farmers & businesses face one of the highest tax burdens found anywhere in the industrialized world. Our tax code is complex, burdensome and in serious need of reform. That is why I fought to get on the Ways & Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over federal tax issues. My goal on that committee is to scale back our 70,000-page tax code and allow you and your family to keep more of your hard earned money rather than send it to Washington.

Additionally I have authored and advanced proposals to eliminate slush funds we uncovered that the IRS has used to implement Obamacare. I also helped author language, signed into law, that prevented a 2000% tax increase on farmers trying to expense equipment for their farm. I have also voted to repeal the onerous death tax, which forces folks to sell family farms simply to pay for a tax burden set off by the death of a loved one.
