Issue Position

The Washington regulatory machine continues to push out thousands of pages of new regulations each year written by bureaucrats who have never set foot in south central or southeast Missouri. The federal code of regulations is now over 175,000 pages long, and regulations are costing our economy close to $2 trillion a year.

Simply put, regulations written by bureaucrats in an office who don't know how to run a farm or small business are holding back our economy and the American entrepreneurial spirit. That is why in 2016 the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation I authored known as the Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act. My bill requires a review of all federal regulations and would do away with the ones that are hurting our economy, are outdated, are overly burdensome, or are duplicative of state laws.

Additionally, I worked with Senator Blunt to defund the Obama Administrations awful Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) Rule, which would have allowed the EPA to regulate every lake, pond, stream and puddle on your farm.

I will continue to advance proposals which take the power out of the hands of unelected bureaucrats and return lawmaking authority to Congress and the American people.
