Ayotte Statement on the Passing of First Lady Nancy Reagan

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today released the following statement regarding the passing of First Lady Nancy Reagan:

"It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the loss of First Lady Nancy Reagan, a woman who was beloved by her husband and by the American people alike. Among her many accomplishments, her efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer and encourage women to receive annual mammogram screenings made a tremendous difference in the fight against this terrible disease. Through her call to "Just Say No,' Mrs. Reagan initiated a national conversation on the dangers of substance abuse, and helped spur greater awareness and advocacy efforts. Following President Reagan's diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease, Mrs. Reagan became a devoted caregiver, joining the millions of American families who have been touched by this terrible disease. Mrs. Reagan's tremendous contributions to our nation will leave an enduring legacy, and I extend my thoughts and prayers to her family and friends during this difficult time."
