Nation Celebrates the 33rd Anniversary of Title IX

Washington, D.C. - On the 33rd Anniversary of Title IX, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) called on the Bush Administration to withdraw the Department of Education's recent rule change that will create major loopholes undermining equal opportunity for young female athletes. McCollum and nearly 150 of her Democratic colleagues delivered the message in a letter to President Bush.

"The Bush Administration is attempting to weaken this landmark legislation that has helped two generations of women," said McCollum. "The enormous progress that girls have made under Title IX will be seriously weakened if the Bush Administration rule change is not withdrawn. Women and girls deserve equal opportunity and access in athletics."
