Ayotte Introduces Bill to Restore DOJ Asset Forfeiture Assistance

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today introduced the Support Our Brave Law Enforcement Act to help restore the Department of Justice (DOJ) Asset Forfeiture Program's equitable sharing payments to benefit New Hampshire law enforcement agencies, as they continue to combat the drug abuse epidemic. Law enforcement officials in New Hampshire have called for the release of these critical funds, which have been suspended by DOJ.

"Equitable sharing payments are critical to our ongoing efforts to take heroin and fentanyl off of our streets. In Nashua, we use these payments to fund our narcotics unit. Senator Ayotte understands the importance of these payments, and I'm thankful she has heard our message and is taking swift action, said Nashua Police Deputy Chief Michael Carignan.

"New Hampshire law enforcement officials must have access to all of the necessary tools to take drugs off the streets," said Senator Ayotte. "This legislation would help ensure that equitable sharing payments to participating state and local law enforcement agencies are resumed as quickly as possible, and help support their efforts to disrupt drug trafficking organizations and keep New Hampshire communities safe."
