The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) announced today its endorsement of Senator Jamie Raskin in his campaign for Maryland's 8th Congressional District.
"Jamie Raskin has a record of outstanding legislative success and has been the go-to Senator in Annapolis for effective advocacy of progressive change. We are delighted to endorse him because he understands the vital role of government and its workers in the health, safety, and prosperity of our nation," said J. David Cox Sr., National President of AFGE and an 8th District resident. "The representative from Maryland's 8th District will play a key role in defending public employees against anti-worker attacks, and Jamie Raskin is the best candidate to fulfill that critical responsibility. We are proud to stand with him in this campaign and know he will always stand with us in Congress."
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 670,000 federal workers in all functions of government. Since Maryland's 8th District has more than 80,000 federal workers, this endorsement carries significant weight with a large block of voters before the April 26th Democratic primary.
"I am honored beyond measure to receive AFGE's endorsement and support in this race," Senator Raskin stated. "Given that 80,000 federal employees live in our district, this endorsement is both gratifying and priceless. I will work to honor and defend these indispensable public servants who are constantly vilified and pilloried by unprincipled politicians. I look forward to standing alongside all AFGE members in Congress to defend the federal workforce, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government, and promote the value of the essential work that federal workers are doing."
