IAFF Local 1664 Endorses Jamie Raskin

Today the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1664 (IAFF) joined a rush of other Maryland unions and endorsed Jamie Raskin's surging campaign for Congress in Maryland's 8th District.

"Jamie Raskin has been a trusted ally and friend to firefighters in Maryland during his decade in Annapolis, and our members admire his exemplary record of public service. We are proud to endorse Jamie and to work for a big victory for him in the Democratic Primary Election on April 26th," said Jeff Buddle, President of the Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1664, AFL-IAFF Local 1664 Endorses Jamie RaskinCIO.

"What a thrill to be endorsed for Congress by the firefighters," said Senator Raskin. "In the State Senate, I have turned to them time and again for advice on matters of public safety, smoking policy and community response to emergencies. I have stood, and will strongly stand, with the firefighters when it comes to defending public safety and recognizing the value and hard work of firefighters in Maryland and across America."

IAFF Local 1664 joins the National Nurses United, UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO, the American Federation of Government Employees, the National Education Association, UFCW Local 400, the Machinists and Aerospace Workers and OPEIU Local 2 as strong union supporters. The Raskin campaign has also earned the support of the Sierra Club, the 72-member Congressional Progressive Caucus, the African-American Democratic Club of Montgomery County, the Latino Democratic Club of Montgomery County, the Coalition of Asian Pacific American Democrats of Maryland, and more than 60 Democratic elected officials, including the state's top Democrat, Attorney General Brian Frosh, Congressman John Sarbanes from the neighboring district, Congressman John Conyers who is the longest serving member of the US House and the co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus, State Senators Rich Madaleno, Susan Lee, Karen Montgomery and Ron Young, and dozens of other state and local officials.
