JOINT STATEMENT BY U.S. SENATORS DURBIN AND OBAMA ON UNITED AIRLINES

U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Barack Obama (D-IL) today issued the following joint statement after the House of Representatives approved an amendment to block bankrupt United Airlines from shifting its pension obligations to the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation:

"The House vote makes it clear that the management of United Airlines needs to sit down with the flight attendants to reach a fair agreement to protect pension rights. We have had meetings with the management of United Airlines and the flight attendants union to urge them to reach a compromise. The House vote underscores the need to do so, now. Absent that, we will not rule out Senate action."
