Lummis Supports IRS Reform

Issues: Taxes

This week U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (WY-At large) voted with the majority of her colleagues to prevent the IRS from rehiring former employees who were previously removed or terminated for misconduct and ban bonuses for IRS employees until the agency develops a comprehensive customer service strategy. Other House-passed bills would block the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from spending user fees without Congressional approval and would prohibit the IRS from hiring any new employees until the Treasury Department certifies that no IRS worker has serious tax delinquencies.

"The IRS has destroyed any trust the American people had in the fairness of our country's tax system and collection service," said Rep. Lummis. "In response, the legislation we passed this week aims to rein in the IRS by regulating hiring, blocking undeserved bonuses, blocking undeserved bonuses, and reclaims congressional authority over how IRS-collected fees are spent. I have also called for the impeachment of Director Koskinen and for a simplified flat tax system. The House has insisted the IRS get their act together and begin the long road to restoring some scrap of their reputation with the American people. This week's legislation would help do just that."
