Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) was presented this week with the 2015 National Wheat Advocate Award by the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG). The Wheat Advocate Award is given annually to members of Congress who have demonstrated outstanding support for the wheat industry. Rep. Newhouse was presented with the award during the Wheat Industry Winter Conference in Washington, D.C. by Brett Blankenship, a Washtucna, WA wheat grower and president of NAWG.

"Representative Newhouse has been one of the strongest champions for the wheat industry. We appreciate his efforts for the advancement of wheat growers across the nation," said NAWG President Brett Blankenship. "We are thankful for his efforts in progressing trade legislation, supporting Trade Promotion Authority, and for strong support for keeping our export channels open."

"Washington State wheat growers have earned the distinction as top U.S. producers for domestic and international markets," said Rep. Newhouse. "As a third-generation farmer and former state director of agriculture, I am honored by this recognition as an advocate in Congress for our nation's wheat growers. I will continue to advocate for open markets and for policies at the federal level that support wheat growers in our state and nation."
