Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

As the political rhetoric here in our state and across the country has become more heated and divisive, we should remember the teaching of Dr. King, who preached peace, tolerance and respect. He set an example for dignity and decency that we could all learn from.

Pingree is speaking tonight at the NAACP's Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance in Portland.
