Pingree Votes for Tax Breaks for Working Families, Small Businesses, Clean Energy Projects

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree today voted for a bill that extends tax breaks for working families, innovative companies developing clean energy and new technology and small businesses. The bill passed the House and now goes to the Senate.

"Big corporations and wealthy individuals have gotten most of the benefit from the economic recovery and it's time that working families and small businesses get a bigger piece of the pie," Pingree said. "These tax cuts help out families trying to make ends meet and pay for child care, they help small businesses that want to expand and grow and they provide a predictable, long-term tax break for the clean energy companies that have created good paying jobs in Maine and around the country. "

The bill that Pingree voted for today renews dozens of tax breaks that had expired at the end of 2014, and makes the renewals retroactive to January 1 of this year, so taxpayers can claim the deductions when they file their taxes in a few months.

In addition to extending those tax cuts, the bill makes permanent the Earned Income Tax Credit for working families and the childcare tax credit.
