Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, lead House Democratic sponsor of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, released the following statement on Maryland's ABLE bill being signed into law:

"I applaud the General Assembly for passing the Maryland ABLE Act into law -- especially Senator Feldman and Delegate Zucker, who led the fight on behalf of families with children with disabilities. As the lead House Democratic sponsor of the federal ABLE Act, I'm proud Maryland took the initiative and established a state ABLE program. It will help level the playing field for Marylanders with disabilities and their families through equal access to tax-free savings accounts. The accounts will provide individuals with disabilities greater financial freedom and security to help them reach their full potential. At the federal level, I recently introduced legislation to build on the progress we've made to expand access to ABLEaccounts and to provide more flexibility to beneficiaries across the country."
