Dear Chairman Davis,

I am writing to express my strong support for the Fair Scheduling, Wages, and Benefits Act (HB 1175) to provide predictable shift schedules for Maryland workers.

Unpredictable work schedules are a serious problem for many Marylanders, particularly low-wage workers. When work shifts are scheduled and canceled with little notice, it disrupts families and makes it more difficult to balance obligations like child care or a second job.

On the federal level, I am supporting the Schedules that Work Act, which would require employers to provide work schedules in advance and establish a reasonable process for employers and employees to make alterations to the schedule. It would also compensate workers if their shifts are changed or dropped without adequate notice.

Like the Schedules that Work Act, the Fair Scheduling, Wages, and Benefits Act (HB 1175) requires advanced notice of schedules and makes sure that employers don't cancel shifts at the last minute. By establishing common-sense scheduling practices and a disincentive for arbitrarily canceling or changing shifts, we protect workers and their families.
