Van Hollen Statement on CBO's Budget and Economic Outlook

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement on the Budget and Economic Outlook from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO):

"Today's report shows continued strength in our economy, with job growth pushing unemployment rates down, but that we have more work to do to ensure families in Maryland and across the country are benefiting from their hard work. Our top priority should be building an economy and a budget that help everyone get ahead, not just the wealthy few.

"I am concerned that Republican leaders in Congress started the year not with an effort to create jobs or invest in America's competitiveness, but by voting to take health care options and affordable coverage away from millions of women and families. We must put the priorities of American families ahead of Tea Party ideology if we hope to strengthen retirement security for our seniors, ensure young Americans have access to affordable education, and ensure those working hard to get ahead are able to climb the economic ladder of opportunity."
