Van Hollen Backs Ban on Assault Weapons

Statement

Date: Dec. 16, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen joined Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) and other gun violence prevention advocates to introduce the Assault Weapons Ban of 2015. The legislation prohibits the sale, transfer, production, and importation of new military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.

"Military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines have no place in our communities," said Congressman Van Hollen. "We have buried far too many innocent victims of gun violence in Maryland and around the country, and it is long past time we take common sense steps to prevent deadly mass shootings and the daily toll of gun violence in our communities."
