Van Hollen: Bold Commitments Needed in Paris to Prevent Global Catastrophe

"As world leaders convene in Paris, the overwhelming scientific evidence demanding action on climate change must be met with bold commitments and a determination to prevent a global catastrophe. Today's announcement that President Obama and leaders of 19 other countries are pledging to double their investments in clean energy research and development is the first in what I hope will be many positive, concrete steps forward in the coming days.

"It is unfortunate that in this time of crisis, some in Congress continue to turn a blind eye to science. Republicans want to undermine America's ability to lead on this critical issue, hindering our ability to bring all nations to the table. Congress must act now on commonsense solutions, like my Healthy Climate and Family Security Act, to make necessary reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while upholding our moral duty as a leading polluter to take bold action."
