Van Hollen Statement on Denial of Permit for Keystone XL Pipeline

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Co-Chair of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change and member of the Safe Climate Caucus and the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, released the following statement after the Administration announced it was denying the permit for construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

"As the long debate over the Keystone XL pipeline comes to a close, we must renew our focus on building a job-creating clean energy economy that advances the battle against climate change. That means making much-needed investments in research & development so that breakthroughs in energy efficiency and renewable energy create American jobs, while moving us closer to energy independence.

"We also must aggressively tackle climate change, which is already having harmful impacts on Maryland families and communities. That's why I've introduced the Healthy Climate and Family Security Act -- a simple, fair, and effective plan to prevent a climate disaster while supporting economic growth and a thriving middle class."
