Issue Position: Honor Our Soldiers and Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2016

With Nellis and Creech Air Force Bases, CD 4 is home to critical military assets that are vital to our nation's strength, as well as our local economy. I will work to ensure these bases continue to be enhanced and protected to address this nation's security challenges.

Veterans and service members have bravely served our country, returning home with injuries physical and mental. We owe them the best health care to address these needs. My father was a veteran, and I have seen first-hand the importance of these programs. Unfortunately, I have also witnessed the confusion, red tape, and lengthy wait times that are sometimes endured to access those benefits. I will work to reduce these very real barriers to the care for our veterans.

I support fully funding veterans' health care benefits and ensuring that veterans have high quality care. Veterans who served our nation have earned the right to dignified and responsive treatment from their government and fellow citizens. Reports of poor service and bureaucratic delays at the VA are appalling, as is the willingness of some radical politicians to shut down the government (including veterans' services) to pursue their partisan agenda.

I will work to ensure the Veterans Administration system is fully functioning and funded so veterans get the care they need. I will work to make sure our veterans get timely and effective treatment.

I also support providing returning service members with the training and education necessary to make them productive members in workforce and society.
