Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today on S.J. Res 23 and 24, two measures from House Republicans that undermine efforts to reduce pollution and address climate change.
"As the world comes together in Paris to discuss the need to take action to combat climate change, House Republicans are trying to take us backwards by blocking efforts to reduce pollution.
"In New Mexico we have a deep connection to the land and water that sustain our livelihoods, our culture, and our traditions. We know that being good stewards of the land is necessary to strengthen our economy, improve our health, and protect our precious resources.
"The growing impacts of climate change have already been felt in New Mexico communities that have experienced more extreme wildfires and more severe drought conditions. House Republicans' attempts to roll back limits on pollution in our air and water will only intensify the effects of climate change."
