Norcross Announces Federal Funding to Combat Heroin Crisis

Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced a $324,316 federal grant has been awarded to Project H.O.P.E. in Camden to fight the region's growing heroin & opiate crisis.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services grant will enable Project H.O.P.E. to hire two additional certified drug & alcohol counselors and two licensed clinical social workers.

"These funds will enable us to treat more patients dealing with substance abuse issues in a primary care setting. We're very excited about this award," said Patricia DeShields, Project H.O.P.E. CEO & Executive Director.

Rep. Norcross, who serves on the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic in the U.S. House of Representatives, wrote a letter of support for Project H.O.P.E.'s grant application.

"Heroin & opiates are killing our loved ones--we need a strong public effort to combat the private struggles of those facing addiction," said Rep. Norcross.

Rep. Norcross has successfully advocated for the availability of the life-saving antidote, naloxone, without a prescription at major U.S. pharmacies.
