Castro Statement on FY2016 Continuing Resolution

Statement

Date: Sept. 30, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 719, a continuing resolution to fund the federal government through December 11, 2015:

"While I am relieved that the federal government will receive the funding it needs to remain operational for the next two months, this short-term measure simply kicks a manufactured crisis down the road. It is essential we negotiate a bipartisan budget agreement to provide certainty to Americans and the programs they rely on every day. Otherwise, our kids' schools, veterans' services, and nation's infrastructure will endure indiscriminate, automatic funding cuts or lose funding altogether in the event of a government shutdown. We need a compromise to fully fund our government and prevent these short-term deals. For our economy to continue to grow and create new jobs, the government must actively contribute to the nation's stability and strength, not hamper it.

"Hardworking Americans are tired of this kind of dysfunction in Washington. It's time for Republicans in Congress to do their jobs instead of taking our government to the brink of a shutdown yet again in December."
