Cramer Statement on TransCanada's Decision to Sue United States Over Denial of KeystoneXL Pipeline

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement after TransCanada Corporation announced its intention to sue the United States in Federal Court over President Obama's decision to reject the building of the Keystone XL pipeline. In addition, the company announced it would contest the President's decision under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). They intend to seek $15 billion in damages from the U.S. under NAFTA.

"The President's short-sighted decision to reject construction of the KeystoneXL Pipeline cost us a vital energy infrastructure project which would have created thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic benefits throughout the country. Unfortunately, given Canada's recent track record in suing the United States, I am afraid the American taxpayer will be left holding the bag for billions in penalties because of President Obama's extreme environmental agenda."
