Whitfield and DeGette Announce Reed as new Co-Chair of Diabetes Caucus

U.S. Representatives Ed Whitfield (R-KY-01) and Diana DeGette (D-CO-01), current Co-chairs of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, announced today that Whitfield, who is approaching his final year in Congress, will be stepping down as Co-chair and will be replaced by Representative Tom Reed (R-NY-23), current Vice-chairman of the Caucus, effective immediately.
Representative Ed Whitfield:
"First and foremost, I want to thank Diana DeGette for being such an extraordinary partner in the work we've done to draw attention to the public health threats posed by diabetes. Without her leadership and dedication, the successes we've shared over the last five years simply wouldn't have been possible. One of the greatest characteristics of the Diabetes Caucus is the bipartisanship we share and Diana has epitomized this in our fight against diabetes.
"While I will certainly miss serving as Co-chair, I take comfort knowing that Tom Reed will be leading the charge from here on out. Tom has been invaluable to the Diabetes Caucus in his role as Vice-chairman and a passionate advocate for those with diabetes. I know he'll serve the Caucus well and I congratulate him and wish him luck."
Representative Diana DeGette:
"Ed Whitfield has been an extraordinary partner in helping bring attention to and working on the many challenges associated with diabetes, and I will miss working with him. However, one of his many achievements as co-chair was developing a strong bipartisan coalition of caucus members, and I cannot wait to work closely with Tom Reed on the many issues we tackle at the caucus. With continued bipartisan action in the tradition of Ed Whitfield, we can improve the lives of patients and their families and can solve the public health challenges brought on by diabetes."
