House Energy and Commerce Committee Passes S. 611, the Grassroots Rural and Small Community Water Systems Act

Congressman Kevin Cramer announced today the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee passed S. 611, the Grassroots Rural and Small Community Water Systems Act. The bill reauthorizes the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) program, which provides technical assistance to small public water systems through 2020. In addition, it will maintain the current annual authorization of $15 million including three percent for technical assistance to public water systems owned or operated by Indian Tribes.

"Access to clean drinking water is vital," said Cramer. "However, complying with many of the EPA's regulations present technical, managerial, and physical challenges beyond the capacity of many small rural water districts. This bill ensures small rural water systems have access to support and guidance necessary to assist in the maintenance and management of our country's rural water systems."

The Senate unanimously passed the bill on June 9.
