Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement today as Northrop Gruman officially broke ground on its Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) facilities at the Grand Sky Technology Park in Grand Forks. Northrop Gruman will serve as the anchor tenant at the park which is adjacent to Grand Forks Air Force Base.

"Today's ground breaking is the culmination of years of hard work by many elected officials as well state and local civic and business leaders to attract new high tech opportunities to the state. Northrop Grumman's facilities at Grand Sky helps cement Grand Forks as an epicenter in the dynamic field of UAS development. I look forward to seeing the company become an integral part of the Grand Forks community. "

North Dakota has become a center of UAS research, development and training. The state is home to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) UAS test site; the University of North Dakota's School of Aerospace Sciences, which is an FAA Center of Excellence for UAS; and hosts many government UAS assets. In addition, construction has begun on Grand Sky, a new UAS technology park under an enhanced use-lease agreement with the Air Force on the Grand Forks Air Force Base property.

Grand Sky is a first of its kind hub for unmanned aerial systems which will contain hangar space, data center facilities, and other aviation support for both private business and government agencies involved in the UAS industry
